G & M LANE 'AERO' Aviator's Wrist Watch. 1920s

Genuine early pilot's wrist watch produced
by the London based company 'G & M Lane & Co. Ltd'. Dating from around 1928
Robust, bulbous, 'white metal' case with screw-on back and bezel (both with milled edge). Fixed wire lugs. Bezel still fitted with acrylic UB glass. Case diameter (not including crown) : 35.5mm. Case condition : 85%
Original black painted dial with subsidiary seconds. Bold luminous numerals and skeleton hands. (luminous paint no longer active). Outer 24 hour chapter. Dial signed, "AERO - G & M Lane & Co. Ltd - London", and marked, "Shock Absorber". Dial condition : 100%.
Nice quality, silvered, Swiss made, 13 ligne, 15 jewel movement (A.S. calibre 153). Marked, "3 Adjustments". Plates decorated with an attractive ‘fish scale’ machine engraved design. Fitted with a 'Cimier Lapanouse' early shock absorber. Movement condition (appearance) : 95%. Recently serviced. Time keeping : good.

'G & M Lane & Co. Ltd', were a company of jewellers and silversmiths formed by the brothers George and Murray Lane. They were based at 24-26 Ludgate Hill, London. EC1 and one of their specialities was a range of watches specifically designed for aviators. These timepieces were sold under the trade name, "Aero" (registered in May 1927) and were supplied to both the Air Ministry and Imperial Airways.
