W.W.I. Period 9ct Gold Royal Flying Corps Sweetheart Brooch

Original W.W.I. period 9ct gold sweetheart brooch, made in the form of the insignia of Royal Flying Corps and dating from around 1915. Brooches such as these were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by airmen to give to their loved ones.

 Nice quality, solid 9ct gold bar brooch with a beautifully hand cut and engraved representation of the RFC insignia. Reverse stamped "9ct". Width : 39mm. Very good condition.

Comes with a modern jeweller's box.

The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
