W.W.I. Period Royal Flying Corps 'Sweetheart' Wings. c.1914

Original W.W.I. period, gilded "sweetheart" brooch in the form of a pair of Royal Flying Corps pilot's wings. These brooches were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by airmen to give to their loved ones.

This scarce brooch is made from gilt brass and has a pin fixing on it's reverse. Overall length : 54mm. Nice condition.

The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
