Vintage Watch Chain With Early Aviation Fob. c.1909

Steel single "Albert" chain (pocket watch chain) with curb links and fitted with a fob decorated with early aircraft. Dating from around 1910.
One end of the chain is fitted with a T-bar (to allow it to be suspended from a button hole), and the other, a trigger clip (for attaching a pocket watch). The chain is also fitted with a decorative pewter watch fob, the front bearing an image of the Astra 'Espana' dirigible, and the reverse with an early monoplane. Length (not including fob) : 240mm. Diameter of fob : 25mm.
The España was built in France by the Astra company for the Spanish Military Aerostatics Service and first flew in 1909.
