Silver S.M.A.E. Pioneer Aircraft Medal. 1929

Attractive solid sterling silver medal decorated with an image of pioneer aircraft. Made in 1929 for presentation by the Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers.
The front of this medal bears the image of the a Bleriot XI and a Maurice Farman Shorthorn S.7. in flight. Engraved above is the caption, "S.M.A.E." (Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers). The reverse is decorated with a laurel wreath and has a space in it's centre for engraving. The reverse is also stamped with a full English sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1929 and with the maker's initials, "V&S" (Vaugton & Sons, Birmingham). Diameter : 32mm. Good condition (slight wear and tear).
