Early Bronze "Aerial Navigation" Plaque. c.1909

High quality, large, gilt bronze plaque celebrating the development of aviation. Designed by Pierre-Alexandre Morlon in 1909.
The front of this beautiful, large, solid bronze plaque is divided into three panels, the central panel bearing the image of a winged goddess. On the left side of this is an image of a Voisin biplane in flight, with a Bleriot monoplane in the distance and on the right is an image of the Lebaudy Airship "La République". Below is the caption, "Navigation Aerienne" (Aerial Navigation). The reverse is decorated with an image of an aircraft designer, above the caption, "Le Reve - Conçoit" (Dream - Conceives), and another image of an aircraft engineer working on an early radial engine, above "La Science – Réalise" (Science – Realizes). Both sides of the medal are signed by the artist "A.Morlon" and the edge is stamped, "Bronze". Width : 100mm. Good condition (some tarnishing).
