Set of Six W.W.I. Royal Aircraft Factory Buttons

A set of six original W.W.I. period, gilt brass Royal Aircraft Factory buttons.

These buttons bear the factory's initials, and the maker's mark, "Buttons Ltd., Birmingham" on the reverse. Diameter of each button : 16.5mm. Good condition.

Her Majesty's Balloon Factory was formed in 1892 and was renamed The Royal Aircraft Factory in 1912. It manufactured several aircraft types including the BE.2c, FE.8, RE.8 and the SE.5. In 1918 it became a research only facility, changing it's name again to the Royal Aircraft Establishment.
