W.W.I. Trench Art Aviation Scene Scent Bottle. c.1914
SOLD

A very nice French trench art scent bottle dating from the early part of W.W.I.
Trench art items such as this example were manufactured by locals using brass from spent artillery shell cases. They were sold to the troops as souvenirs.
This hand fashioned scent bottle has a screw cap and two decorative panels. The front panel shows the French "Liberte" semi-rigid military airship (built by the Lebaudy Brothers) flying over a bridge. The reverse shows a Bleriot Mk XI monoplane flying against a sunset. These planes were used by the allies in the very early stages of the war.
Diameter (not including neck and cap) : 44mm. Good overall condition (some light wear and tear).
