Original W.W.I. Period British Royal Flying Corps Cap Badge

Genuine bronze Royal Flying Corps cap badge designed for use by "other ranks". Dating from between 1912 and 1918.

This particular version of this badge is made from pressed bronze, the badge bears the initials "RFC" in it's centre and is surrounded by laurel leaves and the king's crown. The centre section has been domed much more than usual which gives this badge a very pleasing appearance. Two lugs which allow the badge to be fixed to the cap are mounted on it's reverse. Length : 44mm. Good condition (nice patina).

The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
