Silver & Enamel B.O.A.C. "15 Year" Long Service Lapel Badge. 1956

Nice quality, gilded solid sterling silver "Fifteen Year" long service lapel badge made for and presented by BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation). Dating from 1956. Two available.

This small badge is made in the form of B.O.A.C.'s "Speedbird" insignia with a small shield containing the number "15". The badge is decorated with two colour blue enamel. Mounted on a button hole fastening. Made in the U.K. Back stamped with the British sterling silver hallmark corresponding to the year 1956, and the maker's mark, "JSG&S". Width : 23mm. Good condition (slight wear to gilding).

Britain's national airline, "British Overseas Airways Corporation" was formed in the 1939 when Imperial Airways and (the earlier) British Airways Limited merged.   B.O.A.C. continued in service until 1972 when it merged with British European Airways (B.E.A.) forming British Airways.
