W.W.II. Period Aluminium P.38 Lightning Model
SOLD

Nicely hand fashioned model of a Lockheed P.38 Lightning fighter dating from W.W.II. Models such as this were supposedly made by air force ground crew in their spare time, using surplus or scrap aircraft materials.
This very attractive model is hand made from a solid piece of aluminium and is mounted on it's original base (which doubles as an ashtray). Aircraft wingspan : 210mm. Good condition (nice patina to metal).
The Lockheed P.38 was introduced in August 1941 and at the time was the USAAF's fastest and most heavily armed fighter. During W.W.II., it flew in every major theatre of operations and in the Pacific it downed more Japanese aircraft than any other allied fighter.
