RAF Hawker Hart Oil Painting by Denis Lord

Nicely executed oil painting of a Royal Air Force Hawker Hart bomber in flight. Most likely painted during the 1960s.

This attractive painting depicts a Royal Air Force Hawker Hart day bomber (J9941) of 57 Squadron. The painting is signed by the artist "Denis Lord". Overall dimensions (including frame) : 330mm x 280mm. Image dimensions : 245mm x 198mm. Good condition (slight wear and tear to frame).

The Hawker Hart twin seat tactical day bomber was designed in 1927 by Sydney Camm (Hawker's chief designer - responsible for many of Hawkers aircraft including the Hurricane and Hunter). It first flew in 1928 and entered service with the RAF in 1930. 57 Squadron was equipped with Harts in 1931 when they were reformed after their disbandment in 1919. They flew Harts from their base in Netheravon (and later Upper Heyford) until 1938 when they received the new Bristol Blenheim bomber. The actual aircraft (J9941) depicted in this painting is on display at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon, London.
