Original British ID Recognition Model - Hawker Tempest II. c.1945

Original British wooden ID recognition model of a Hawker Tempest II fighter aircraft. Dating from around 1945.
This wooden, 1/72 scale, hand-made model is decorated with it's original black paintwork. The underside still bears the British War Department stores hand stamp and code identifying the plane as a Tempest II. Overall wing span : 178mm. Good condition (some light chipping to paint).
These models were produced as training and identification aids for military personnel such as air crew, anti aircraft gunners and members of the Observer Corps.
The Hawker Tempest II was designed to house the powerful Bristol Centaurus radial engine. The prototype made it's maiden flight in June 1943 and production began in August 1944. It was delivered to the Royal Air Force in November 1945, just after the end of W.W.II.
