Rare Early Aviatrix Bowl - Baroness De Laroche. c.1910


Large, rare, ceramic bowl depicting an image which is believed to be modeled on the French pioneer aviatrix, Baroness de Laroche. Dating from around 1910.
This very attractive bowl has a green outer background, is highlighted with gilding and is decorated with a transfer image of the Baroness at the controls of a Voisin biplane. Overall diameter : 247mm. Good condition (slight wear to decoration).
Baroness (Elise) de Laroche was the first woman to be awarded a pilot's licence, which she obtained on the 8th March 1910. She was taught to fly by the pioneer aviator and aircraft designer/manufacturer, Gabriel Voisin and was killed in a flying accident in 1919.
