Genuine W.W.II. period German barrage balloon unit pocket watch fob. Dating from 1943.
This attractive watch fob consists of a cast metal medallion which is suspended from black webbing strap and is designed to be attached to a pocket watch by means of a trigger clip. The front of the medallion bears the image of the Luftwaffe eagle above the dates "1.5.41 - 1.5.43" and the inscription, "Luftsperrabtlg. 210" (Luftsperrabteilungen 210 - Air Defence Unit No.210). The reverse depicts an image of Bremen's statue of Knight Roland beside Bremen Town Hall with a barrage balloon above. This fob was almost certainly made for members of No.210 Luftsperr-abteilungen to commemorate their service at Bremen between 1941 and 1943. Overall length : 132mm. Some ageing to medallion.
Luftsperrabteilungen 210 was formed in Bad Saarow in April 1941. They were stationed in Bremen until April 1944 and would have been operational during the exceptionally heavy bombing of the town by the Royal Air Force during the Summer of 1942.
