DH88 Comet/"McRobertson Air Race" Lapel Badge. 1934

Cast metal lapel badge made in the form of a DeHavilland DH88 Comet racing plane. Believed to have been made in 1934 as a souvenir of the McRobertson Air Race.
This small badge has been cast in a light weight metal and then silver plated. The reverse has a fastening designed to be worn in lapel button hole. Wingspan : 31.5mm. Good condition.
The DH88 Comet was a long distance racing monoplane which made it's debut at the famous McRobertson Air Race between Mildenhall, England and Melbourne, Australia. Amongst numerous other aircraft, three DH88's were entered, one flown by James Mollison and his wife Amy (Johnson), another by Owen Cathcart Jones and Ken Waller and the last by Charles W. Scott and Tom Campbell Black. Out of 63 original entrants, Scott & Cambell-Black won the race in just under 71 hours. Cathcart & Waller finishing in fourth place.
