Early Aviation Scene Cigarette Box. 1920's (Top View)

Table top cigarette box with an attractive aviation scene on it's lid. Most likely manufactured in Japan for the British market. Dating from the 1920's.

This box is made from an alloy of antimony and lead and plated with a bright metallic finish. Items made from this alloy were manufactured in Japan (mainly for foreign markets). The hinged lid is decorated in relief with a scene depicting three military biplanes flying over countryside. The design is highlighted with red, green and white paint. The inside of the box is lined with wood. The bottom of the box is marked, "Foreign". Good condition (slight wear to plating - mainly on feet). Dimensions (including feet) : 155mm x 92mm x 55mm.
