Rare "Vickers Aviation" Stopwatch. 1932 (Case Back)

Rare "Vickers Aviation" Stopwatch. 1932 (Movement)

Rare, quality stopwatch used by the technical department of Vickers (Aviation) Ltd. Dating from 1932.

This stop watch has a solid nickel case with a snap-on bezel and hind back and inner dust cover. The high quality movement is unusual in the fact that once wound, the movement runs continually and the chronograph function starts only once the winding crown is depressed (which engages the timer mechanism). The stopwatch is also stopped and reset by pressing the crown. The enamel dial is calibrated to 60 seconds, divided into 5ths. The stopwatch also has a 30 minute counter which runs in an anti-clockwise direction. The back of the case is engraved with the inscription, "Vickers (Aviation) Ltd. - Technical Dept. - 1-11-32". Case diameter (not including pendant) : 48mm. Good condition (slight wear and tear to case). Good working order (recently serviced).

The giant shipbuilding, engineering and arms conglomerate Vickers Sons & Maxim Ltd formed Vickers Ltd (Aviation Department) in 1911. During W.W.I., Vickers operated factories at Brooklands in Weybridge, Surrey and at Crayford, Bexleyheath and Erith in Kent. In August 1928, the aviation department became Vickers (Aviation) Ltd.
