W.W.II. R.A.F. Smiths/Jaeger LeCoultre "Time Of Trip" Chronograph Cockpit Clock. 1939

Very desirable, high quality, "Mk.III B" 8 day "Time of Trip" chronograph aircraft clock manufactured by the Swiss manufacturer, "Jaeger LeCoultre" and supplied to the Royal Air Force during W.W.II. by "S. Smith & Sons, London". These clock were originally intended for use in long range aircraft such as bombers. This clock dates from 1939, the beginning of Britain's involvement in W.W.II.
This clock has a black painted metal case with buttons mounted on it's front. One button is used to wind the clock and set the hands, the other to start, stop and reset the chronograph function. The dial is marked in 24 hour graduations with alternate luminous numerals and luminous hands (luminous paint faded with age). At the twelve o'clock position is a smaller subsidiary dial which records the duration of a flight. The large sweep seconds hand records the seconds. The back of the case bears the British Royal crown with the initials, "A.M." (Air Ministry). The dial is in signed in black (not visible on scan), "Mk.III B - No. 2371/39 R - S. Smith & Sons (MA) Ltd. London - Ref No. 6A/839 - L 10/39". These clocks are fitted with a beautiful quality, gilt, 13 jewel, 8-day chronograph movement made by the top Swiss manufacturer, Jaeger LeCoultre. Overall width of clock : 95mm. Good condition (wear and tear to paint on case - a small nick on bottom of glass which has caused a minor internal flaw within the glass, see scan). Good working order.
