Good quality, W.W.I. period, solid 9ct gold "sweetheart" brooch in the form of a pair of Royal Flying Corps pilot's wings. These brooches were known as "sweethearts" as they were purchased by airmen to give to their loved ones.

This scarce brooch is cast in solid 9ct gold and is mounted on to a brooch pin. The back is stamped, "9ct". Overall length : 44.5mm. Nice condition. Comes with a good quality period leather jeweller's case.

The Royal Flying Corps was formed on 13th May 1912 and served through the majority of the First World War. On 1st April 1918, the RFC and the RNAS (Royal Navy Air Service) were separated from the army and the navy and merged to form a new service, the Royal Air Force.
