Rare Original Autograph. Pierre Prier - French Pioneer & Record Breaking Aviator. c.1911

Genuine autograph by the pioneer French aviator, Pierre Prier. Dating from around 1911.

Signed in black ink on a period "Flight Series" postcard with a photographic image of Prier sitting in an aeroplane cockpit. The card is numbered "5" and bears the inscription, "M. Prier" (Monsieur). This item is part of a collection of pioneer aviator signatures which were accumulated prior to W.W.I. by a Miss N. Nadin of Cheltenham, England.  Dimensions (including mount) : 178mm x 128mm. Good condition

Pierre Prier was appointed chief flying instructor for the Bleriot School of Flying at the opening of Hendon Aerodrome on Oct. 1st 1910. He was one of the six pilots who “buzzed” the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race in 1911 and achieved the first non-stop flight from London to Paris, covering 230 miles in 3 hrs 56 mins. This set a new world record for distance flown in a straight line. Also in 1911, he became a flying instructor at the Bristol Aircraft headquarters, Salisbury Plain. Later that year he crashed the Bristol racing monoplane which was being prepared for the 1911 Circuit of Britain Air Race.
